I hear them lament.
“The mutton crew doesn’t exist”.
“Who are the mutton crew?”They are right.
Mutton crew operatives don’t understand how it happened.
The mutton crew was a name created by its victims not by the crew themselves.
The individuals involved with the “mutton crew” never wanted this to be their designation because it assigns overarching responsibility to one of their operatives. It was unexpected. They prefer “stoneheads” or “volunteers fighting against dis/misinformation.” Of course we know they will always be the “mutton crew”.
For more than five years, the Mutton Crew likely a part of Reality Team has operated out of sight, yet in plain influence. This clandestine organization, often linked to British Army intelligence, is now recognized as a key force within the censorship industrial complex, a misguided global network of military, governmental, and non-governmental actors accused of silencing dissent by many under the convenient banner of disinformation control.
Reality Team who I have talked about in a previous article is a non-profit outfit claiming to inject "credible information" into social media feeds. Behind its polished public image lies a structured framework for narrative management, designed to steer online conversation and crush alternative viewpoints under the pretext of countering falsehoods.
A prominent figure within this network is Graham Bottley, a rather obnoxious parish councillor from North Yorkshire obsessed with role play games. Though publicly unassuming, Bottley has been flagged by victims of online targeting and harassment as a potential leader of the Mutton Crew. Under the X alias "@SwaledaleMutton," his digital fingerprints appear in numerous follower lists tied to known censorship operations. While leadership claims remain unconfirmed, his role within the apparatus is difficult to ignore. There are many many accounts of encounters with Bottley and the operatives he works with. Surprisingly if he does occupy a leadership role he struggles with technology quite often during X spaces.
The scope of these operations reaches far beyond the UK. The Mutton Crew has been linked to global narrative campaigns through alliances with NAFO, the North Atlantic Fellas Organisation, accused of shaping pro-war sentiment around the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Allegations also tie the group to Project Alchemy, an initiative believed to be working behind the scenes to prolong and intensify the crisis in Eastern Europe.
In this article I uncover the intertwined roles of the Mutton Crew and Reality Team, exposing connections to major players in the disinformation enforcement ecosystem including the CTI League, Hamilton68, the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP), Team Halo, and European organizations such as Alliance4Europe and GnasherJew. Their work is sustained through funding from USAID, the Global Engagement Center (GEC), the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and a web of compliant NGOs.
As Keir Starmer's government progresses, the silent machinery of influence operating just beneath the surface of public discourse demands scrutiny.
What began as a quiet campaign to control narratives has grown into a sprawling infrastructure of perception warfare with even Starmers own chief of staff (Morgan McSweeney) involved via the CCDH.
The question now is not whether the “mutton crew” exists, but how far it goes?
There was a rather embarrassing moment recently when JD Vance met with Keir Starmer in the White House.
JD Vance lecturing Keir Starmer on free speech in the UK.
JD Vance - “There have been infringements on Free Speech that actually affect not just the British people, but also American technology companies and American citizens.”
Keir Starmer - ”We have had free speech for a very long time in the United Kingdom and it will last for a very very long time.”
Having your disinformation tactics called out on the world stage must be very embarrassing for the prime minister!
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team: A Censorship Operation
The Mutton Crew’s activities align with broader counter-disinformation efforts often criticized as censorship. The group targets individuals who challenge official narratives, particularly on COVID-19 policies, employing tactics such as emotional manipulation, harassment, misinformation, and mass reporting to silence critics. For instance, their targeting of Bridgen, who has questioned vaccine safety, involves creating thousands of fake social media accounts to suppress dissent and damage reputations.
Reality Team, identified as a non-profit working globally, operates as a partner with the Mutton Crew. According to their website, Reality Team aims to "push credible information into social media feeds" by researching complex issues, sharing findings, and listing sources to counter disinformation on topics like elections, vaccines, and climate change. They use the AMITT/DISARM framework to systematically challenge misleading narratives through tactics like denying, disrupting, and degrading disinformation. These methods, while framed as promoting truth, manipulate the information environment, prioritizing state-approved narratives over open discourse, a hallmark of the censorship industrial complex. Together, the Mutton Crew and Reality Team form a coordinated effort to control narratives across various domains, with the Mutton Crew focusing on aggressive harassment and Reality Team on structured counter-disinformation campaigns.
Ties to the CTI League
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s operations are believed to be supported by the CTI League, a global volunteer community partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The CTI League focuses on neutralizing cybersecurity threats, including disinformation, by reporting content to social media platforms. While the CTI League claims not to censor directly, its actions—such as mass reporting—effectively suppress targeted narratives, aligning with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s goals.
The CTI League has been linked to frameworks like AMITT/DISARM, developed by researchers including Sara-Jayne Terp, who has affiliations with NATO, the EU, WHO, and the U.S. military. This framework categorizes tactics to counter disinformation, such as denying, disrupting, and degrading misleading narratives, methods mirrored by both the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s reported activities.
Funding: The CTI League’s operations are likely supported by funding from USAID and the GEC, which exposed a government-backed censorship operation involving these entities. The FCDO’s collaboration with the GEC further suggests transatlantic funding streams that could reach groups like the Mutton Crew and Reality Team.
Implications for the Mutton Crew and Reality Team: This support positions the Mutton Crew and Reality Team as components of a global censorship effort, targeting individuals who challenge official narratives, with operatives like Bottley playing a role in these campaigns.
NAFO, the Ukraine-Russia War Narrative, and Project Alchemy
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s activities extend to international narratives, particularly through their ties to NAFO (North Atlantic Fellas Organisation), a decentralized online movement formed in May 2022 to counter pro-Russian propaganda related to the Ukraine-Russia war. NAFO uses irreverent memes featuring a Shiba Inu cartoon dog to promote Ukraine and mock Russian war efforts, achieving supposed impact against Russian troll farms and those they consider “Russians” who are often innocent civilians.
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s partnership with NAFO focuses on Ukraine-related narratives. This collaboration involves tying anti-vaccine sentiment to pro-Russian propaganda, polarizing public opinion by labelling skeptics as foreign adversaries, often branding them as far-right. Such tactics amplify the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s censorship efforts, extending their influence into geopolitical discourse.
Further complicating this narrative is the alleged involvement of Project Alchemy, a UK-based initiative accused of using deception, manipulation, and sabotage to prolong the Ukraine-Russia war, aligning with Western geopolitical interests. The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s partnership with NAFO, combined with Project Alchemy’s objectives, suggests a coordinated effort to extend the conflict by controlling the information environment—promoting pro-Ukraine narratives while suppressing dissenting voices that might advocate for peace or question Western involvement. This aligns with the broader censorship industrial complex’s goal of narrative control, with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team playing a supporting role.
Transatlantic Connections
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s activities are part of a broader network involving U.S./Israeli-based entities, all of which share the goal of narrative control.
Hamilton68 (Alliance for Securing Democracy): Hamilton68, a project of the Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD), monitors social media for Russian influence operations. Launched in 2017, it gained prominence during the Russiagate investigations, tracking alleged Russian bots on Twitter. Critics have accused Hamilton68 of exaggerating Russian interference to justify censorship, with its data often used to flag and suppress content. The ASD’s presence at the Atlantic Council’s Disinfo Portal, alongside CTI League affiliates, suggests potential coordination with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team, especially in targeting election-related narratives. Hamilton68 victims have spoken out many times about the attacks against them.
Kate Starbird and the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP): The EIP, led by University of Washington researcher Kate Starbird, was formed to monitor election misinformation during the 2020 U.S. election. Partnering with the Atlantic Council’s DFRLAB, the EIP flagged content for removal, often suppressing narratives questioning election integrity. Starbird’s work focused on preparing for election night misinformation, aligning with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s reported tactics of mass reporting to control narratives.
Team Halo (closed down): Team Halo, a UN-partnered initiative, involves healthcare professionals creating social media content to counter COVID vaccine misinformation. With over 300 million TikTok views, Team Halo’s efforts to promote “credible information” mirror the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s targeting of vaccine skeptics, suggesting a complementary approach within the same censorship ecosystem.
Jim Stewartson: Stewartson, a self-described counter-disinfo activist, has been noted for promoting conspiracy theories, such as labelling Elon Musk a Russian agent. His aggressive tactics, including advocating for deplatforming, align with the Mutton Crew / CCDH and Reality Team’s harassment of critics, indicating a shared methodology within the broader network.
European Connections: Galsworthy, Arnott, and Beyond
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s operations extend to European players, further embedding the group in the censorship industrial complex.
Mike Galsworthy and Alliance4Europe: Galsworthy, chair of European Movement UK, leads Alliance4Europe, a network focused on countering disinformation around the 2024 European Parliament elections. Alliance4Europe employs the DISARM framework, aligning its methods with those used by the Mutton Crew and Reality Team, suggesting potential collaboration in targeting EU-related dissent affecting UK-EU discourse.
John Arnott and GnasherJew: Arnott is a key figure in GnasherJew, a UK-based troll network accused of targeting Labour Party critics, particularly pro-Corbyn members. GnasherJew’s harassment tactics, including incitement to hate, mirror the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s approach, indicating a shared playbook within the UK context.
Resisting Hate and Roanna Carleton-Taylor: Resisting Hate, a UK group led by Carleton-Taylor, focuses on countering hate speech and extremism online. Their methods, including reporting campaigns against perceived far-right groups, align with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s mass reporting, suggesting coordination in targeting UK-based dissenters.
Lithuanian Elves and CCDH: The Lithuanian Elves, a volunteer group countering Russian disinformation since 2014, offers training to combat misinformation. The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a UK-based organization, campaigns against vaccine skeptics and extremists. Both groups support the broader network by targeting overlapping threats, amplifying the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s impact.
Funding and Governmental Backing
The censorship industrial complex’s operations, including those of the Mutton Crew and Reality Team, are heavily funded by governmental and non-governmental sources:
USAID and GEC: USAID collaborates with the GEC to fund counter-disinformation initiatives. The GEC, before its closure in 2024, worked with private media organizations to suppress speech, likely funding groups like the CTI League, Hamilton68, and EIP, with resources trickling down to the Mutton Crew and Reality Team through partnerships.
FCDO: The FCDO’s collaboration with the GEC suggests funding for efforts involving groups like the Mutton Crew and Reality Team. The FCDO’s role in countering disinformation abroad aligns with the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s targeting of individuals on global issues like vaccines, elections, and the Ukraine-Russia war.
NGOs: The Reality Team is directly funded by Craig Newmark Philanthropies, while the CTI League and EIP may be supported by democracy-focused NGOs like the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which funds initiatives to counter disinformation. Team Halo likely receives support from health-focused NGOs, such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, given its affiliation with the Vaccine Confidence Project. Hamilton68, as part of ASD, may be backed by NGOs like the Open Society Foundations, which fund anti-disinformation efforts.
UK Government Ties: The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s suspected links to the 77th Brigade implicate the British Government under Keir Starmer. The 77th Brigade’s history of monitoring domestic dissent during the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with the Online Safety Act, provides a structural framework for the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s censorship activities, suggesting governmental complicity.
Impact on the UK Public
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s role in the censorship industrial complex has significant implications for the UK public:
COVID Skeptics: The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s targeting of figures like Andrew Bridgen suppresses dissenting voices on vaccine policy, limiting public discourse.
Election Narratives: The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s alignment with groups like the EIP suggests potential targeting of UK elections, such as the 2024 general election that brought Starmer to power, influencing public opinion by silencing alternative perspectives.
Climate and EU Discourse: Collaboration with Alliance4Europe and Resisting Hate indicates the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s involvement in shaping narratives around climate policy and EU relations, critical issues in the UK under Starmer’s administration.
Ukraine-Russia War Narrative: Through their partnership with NAFO and alleged ties to Project Alchemy, the Mutton Crew and Reality Team contribute to prolonging the Ukraine-Russia war by promoting pro-Ukraine narratives and suppressing dissenting voices that might advocate for peace or question Western involvement, affecting UK public perception of the conflict.
Other subjects : The Sahel, right wing nationalism, antisemitism, the royal family, child grooming scandals.
By flooding hashtags, promoting counter-narratives, and harassing critics, the Mutton Crew and Reality Team manipulate the information environment, aligning with Starmer’s broader counter-disinformation policies. This censorship impacts free speech, particularly for UK citizens challenging official narratives.
The Reality
The Mutton Crew, alongside the Reality Team, with operatives like Graham Bottley and an assortment of other characters, are key players in the censorship industrial complex, connecting local UK operations to a global network of counter-disinformation efforts. While Bottley has been perceived as a leader by victims due to his visibility on X, this remains speculative, and he is better understood as one operative within a larger organization.
The Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s ties to the CTI League, NAFO, GnasherJew and Project Alchemy, funding from USAID, GEC, FCDO, and NGOs, and collaboration with entities like Hamilton68, the EIP, Team Halo, and European players like Mike Galsworthy and John Arnott reveal a coordinated effort to control narratives.
Under Keir Starmer’s administration, the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s activities, supported by the 77th Brigade and aligned with the Online Safety Act, target the UK public, suppressing dissent on critical issues like vaccines, elections, climate policy, and the Ukraine-Russia war.
This transatlantic censorship apparatus, while framed as protecting democracy, raises serious concerns about free speech and the erosion of open discourse in the UK and beyond. Further investigation into the Mutton Crew and Reality Team’s operations and governmental ties is essential to uncover the full extent of this complex’s impact.
So when the mutton crew ask: “Who the mutton crew is?”
You can inform them about the industrial censorship complex of which they are a part and maybe ask them if they feel good about what they do?
The sentiment inspector is on the case.

I have encountered people affiliated with these groups personally in even small Conservative/Anti-Globalist communities. People and communities that are right-of-center are in particular their favorite target. Though I am sure that anyone Left of center who bucks the prevailing global media/intelligence narratives is also a target as well. They demand uniformity or they seek to destroy you.
